PNW Regional Geographic Information Council
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest Regional Geographic Information Council (PNW-RGIC) which is composed of federal, state, local, and tribal members from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The major focus of the organization is to provide a forum for cooperation and communication about geospatial information.
Mission
The Pacific Northwest Regional Geographic Information Council is dedicated to assisting regional stakeholders by coordinating, promoting, and enabling the development, distribution, and maintenance of regionally and nationally significant geospatial data sets.
The PNW-RGIC is a forum where organizations can:
- Define and integrate state framework activities
- Identify activities that are occurring at the Federal, Tribal, and State level
- Coordinate funding and activities
- Prioritize regional geospatial efforts
Guiding Principles
The principles that guide PNW-RGIC are as follows:
- Geospatial data are of great importance for conducting business at all levels of government
- Geospatial data must be freely shared at all levels of government for the public good
- Geospatial data standards are important to the consistency of data across the region
- Geospatial data policies are developed to ensure consistent development and dissemination of geospatial data
- Regional geospatial activities align with national programs, activities, and principles where possible
- Regional partners’ long-range needs and priorities are the primary guidance for PNW-RGIC
